Here you'll find a collection of supporting materials for my dissertation, particularly color maps, images, photographs and animated material that cannot be included in the dissertation's paper format.

Digital photographs of the 1709/1710 plan-relief of Douai currently in the Musée de la Chartreuse, Douai:

• Illustrations of the space between the old town walls and the earth ramparts - the shadow between the curtain wall and the ramparts indicates this space.

• Example of a late-medieval boulevard still existing in 1710 (at the porte d'Arras).

• Section of Douai's fortifications along eastern sector of town - not at the point of attack for the 1710 siege, and these fortifications are probably from later in the 18th century. Note the round medieval towers, the gate complex (porte Valenciennes), the gap between the medieval brick wall and the earth rampart, the ravelins (one built in front of a boulevard), the traverses in the covered way (the glacis is indicated by dark green felt), and the lack of any bastions despite the sharp receding angle of the curtain wall.
